Youth Day

Each year on June 16 – South Africans commemorate the 1976 youth uprisings, paying tribute to the learners and young people who stood up against the apartheid government. Youth Day serves as a reminder that young South Africans were at the forefront of the struggle for liberation; and while this day comes as a commemoration of and tribute to the youth of 1976 who protested against apartheid laws – today’s youth face complex challenges of unemployment, poverty, inequality, crime and, most recently, the various impacts of COVID-19.

Join Iziko this year in celebrating, commemorating and connecting with young South Africans on Youth Day.
