Make a splash at the Iziko South African Museum with H20 Today, where visitors are invited to explore the beauty and essential nature of water – our planet’s lifeblood.
The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome is offering visitors an experience unlike any other in South Africa, let alone the continent, this holiday! With two new exhibitions recently opened, we’re certain that there’s something unique for all art enthusiasts to enjoy! Tributetakes a look at the school curriculum for art, and celebrates those artists included both in the syllabus and in the Iziko South African National Gallery’s permanent collection. Artworks included in Filling in the Gapsdisplay recent acquisitions in painting, sculpture, photography and installation, reaffirming Iziko’s commitment to collecting and exhibiting the art of the past and the present. Not the Usual Suspects comes as a tribute to the renowned Market Photo Workshop, showcasing the work of over 100 artists and asking us to consider notions of access and visibility. It’s a dialogue between archives and public histories, us and you!
The Iziko South African National Gallery will also be hosting an art-filled creative activity this school holiday. Spend the morning at the gallery, and be inspired by our exciting exhibitions! Hunt for clues within the space, and complete your very own masterpiece! This programme is aimed at ages 8 – 14, and will take place on Tuesday, 26 March from 09h30 until 11h30. RSVP to ykohler@iziko.org.zato secure your spot!
Reflect on the origins of our roots at the Iziko Slave Lodge, and uncover our history – from life in ancient Egypt with KEMET: Life in Ancient Egypt, to the extraordinary story of The Wreck of the Slave Ship, São José, 1794. Learn about the experience of colonial subjects through a specific focus on the lives of three slave women in Under Cover of Darkness. Delve into stories at the Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum, where the narratives of Cape Town’s slaves, after their emancipation, are told.
For a journey of discovery this school holiday, be sure not to miss out on the adventure at Iziko Museums of South Africa!
