Blast off into the summer sky as we take you closer to the stars than you’ve ever imagined! This summer, the Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome is ready to welcome space cadets and astronauts of all ages to prepare for an astronomical space adventure!
All our Planetarium friends are back! Tycho, the Planetarium’s favourite dog takes young astronauts on a space adventure as they take a close-up look at the Sun, play with zero gravity, witness Earth from space, and so much more! Join Annie and Max for a whirlwind adventure as they find out more about the seasons in Tilt. Discover how the human body works in CELL! CELL! CELL! Watch Sooki and Raj use a series of fantastic instruments to peer inside complex living cells!
Seasoned space explorers in search of action can explore what it takes for astronauts to reach an asteroid, and how such an adventure could benefit humankind in Asteroid: Mission Extreme. Cosmic Collisions sheds light on the explosive encounters that ended the age of the dinosaurs and gave birth to new stars, and created conditions essential for life on Earth. For the less adventurous, sit back, relax, and take a journey To Space and Back. Everyday space exploration is impacting our lives and influencing the way we live. Be part of an incredible journey of discovery; and explore the far reaches of our known universe and our own planet.
Researchers, academics or anyone interested in how our ‘Dome’ contributes to astronomy research, are invited to attend ‘Data to Dome’ on 15 January 2018 at 2 pm. Tickets cost R60 and are available from reception.
The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome is open Tuesday to Sunday and Wednesday evenings during the summer holidays. Visit www.iziko.org.za for show times and entrance fees.
