Question:  Is the Iziko Museums of South Africa closed?

Answer: In these extraordinary times, Iziko Museums of South Africa is temporarily closed. The museums will reopen on Friday, 17 April 2020. The following museum/sites will not be open to the public:

  • Bertram House 
  • Bo-Kaap Museum
  • Koopmans de Wet House
  • Old Town House Museum
  • Rust en Vreugd House Museum
  • Slave Lodge
  • South African National Gallery
  • South African Museum and Planetarium
  • William Fehr Collection of the Castle of Good Hope
  • Manor House at Groot Constantia
  • Iziko Maritime Centre

Please be advised that Iziko libraries and collections access will be restricted.

 

Question: How long will the museums be closed or reopen?

Answer: The Iziko museums will be closed until Sunday, 3 May 2020, however management is continuously assessing the situation.  

 

Question: Where can visitors check for updates?

Answer:  We encourage our visitors to explore the Iziko website, www.iziko.org.za. Please follow Iziko Museums on our social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, for updates and information.

Question: Will the school holiday programmes continue?

Answer: Please be advised that all public programmes, planetarium shows, scheduled commemorative day events, the mobile museum outreach activities, venue hire undertakings, tours to our museums have been suspended.

 

Questions: Will there be planetarium shows Wednesday evenings?

Answer: The Wednesday evening planetarium shows have been suspended, the next evening shows are scheduled to run again on the 8th of April 2020. Updates about the dates will be posted on Iziko’s social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

 

Question: Will the museum be open on the weekends?

Answer: Kindly note the Iziko museums will be closed the next 21 days, including weekends, until 7 April 2020.

FEES INCREASE
UPDATE

Iziko Museums of South Africa will increase entry fees to all Iziko Museums for the first time in a decade, effective 1 April 2023. The new fees schedule was developed after undertaking a benchmarking assessment of local, regional, and national cultural/heritage attractions. The new entrance fees take our communities and visitors into consideration and remains a unique value-for money cultural and edutainment offering in Cape Town.
