Iziko South African Museum

With *free entry at selected Iziko Museums of South Africa

Celebrate International Museum Day on Saturday, 18 May 2019 with *free entry to (selected) Iziko Museums of South Africa, and half-price entry to Iziko Planetarium shows. This global initiative was developed by International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, and seeks to raise awareness around the role museums play in cultural exchange, the enrichment of cultures, and within the development of a greater mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.

The Iziko Mobile Museum will take the “museum without walls’ to communities, who many not have the opportunity to physically visit the museum. They mobile museum will be at the Multipurpose Centre of Marine Primary, Ocean View, on Wednesday and at the school library, Simon’s Town Primary, on 17 May .

On Saturday, 18 May, Iziko’s programme of events will run between 09h00 and 16h00, and will include a number of half-price screenings at the Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome; a live insect and spider display, dance performances, and face painting activities – all in the Iziko South African Museum; and an interactive ‘water is life’ activity in the H2O Today exhibition space, also located at the Iziko South African Museum.
