This exhibition poetically explores the deeply meaningful realities that are implicit in the exhibition title – AFTER LIFE – encompassing both the mysteries of life and death. This multi-media exhibition and diaroma’s are a seminal meditation on the nature of life, its vulnerability, impermanence and mystery. The subject matter is compelling and has deep resonance for all – as all of humanity and nature is connected in this inevitable cycle of life.
At the Iziko Slave Lodge, guided tours of gender-based exhibitions: “Still Figuring Out What it Means to Be a Man” and “I Am What I Am: Places, Faces & Spaces”, takes place at 14:00 and 15:00 respectively. Through these contact connections, issues such as gender-based and sexual violence; challenging stigmas related to sex work, and confronting hegemonic ideals of masculinity are discussed.
The transformation of gender relations is key to enhancing our freedom as humans and as citizens and creating sustainable peace in our society. A Healing and Transformation of Gender Relations workshop will be hosted at the Iziko Slave Lodge on Saturday, 19 May from 10am until 13:00. Gender issues lie at the heart of many of the social issues that plague our communities and personal lives: relationship problems, domestic violence, gangsterism, violent crime, substance abuse, bullying, lack of intimacy, loneliness, teenage pregnancy, rape, etc. The Gender Equity and Reconciliation (GER) process provides a rare forum to jointly confront the personal, social, and cross-cultural origins of gender oppression and exploitation, and to reach mutual healing and understanding.
