Join us throughout as we celebrate South Africa’s diverse heritage in a series of exciting events and exhibitions on Heritage Day Saturday, 24 September 2022.
*Free entry excludes Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome, as well as museums closed for repairs and renovations.

South Africa’s treasures: Invertebrate Paleontological and Geological Collection displays of rocks, minerals, and shells. | ||
English & Indigenous languages. Visitors will be asked to write down, next to the English insect’s common name, the common insect names in their native tongue. This list would be documented for possible social media information sharing post the event. | ||
Reptiles and amphibians: An exciting display of reptiles and amphibians highlighting their differences e.g. in their physical attributes, their behaviour towards the water but also their similarities | ||

We love bees! Showcasing ways to keep bees buzzing. In addition, visitors have an opportunity to try a small sample of raw honey and honeycomb. | ||
Modern Entomophagy: Edible insects have been consumed by humans for many years and yet are still considered taboo to many. We would like to provide visitors with an opportunity to try commercial edible insect species, in our effort to promote sustainable eating. | ||
10:00 – 14:00 | The Coat of Arms of South Africa is the main heraldic insignia of South Africa. The present coat of arms was introduced on Freedom Day 27 April 2000 and was designed by Mr Iaan Bekker. It replaced an earlier national arm, which had been in use since 1910.Participants will be taken through the Rock Art display to explore and discuss significance and symbolism behind our coat of arms. | Discovery Room, ISAM |

The aim of the school is to nurture talent, educate and address youth unemployment in the Performing Arts and Creative Industries.
