SATURDAY 1 OCTOBER 10:00 – 12:00
Join the Friends on a guided tour of the award-winning Cape Muslim and Slave Heritage Museum which is located at the Castle of Good Hope. The museum contains in excess of one thousand artefacts and works of art. The artefacts on display narrate the unedited history of the Cape, exploring the arrival of the Dutch East India Company, British Imperialism, the slave trade, the emancipation of the slaves, the vibrant cultures of District Six and the Bo-Kaap, as well as the contribution of Muslim, Jewish, Christian, and the African and Asian diasporas to the shaping of contemporary South African culture.
Drawing inspiration from his sound knowledge of Cape history, the deep rootedness in his community and extensive travel experiences, the curator, Mr Igshaan Higgins, an attorney by profession and activist, will host this session.
