The Social History Library focuses on the history and people of Southern Africa, with special reference to the Western Cape and more specifically Cape Town.
The library focuses on the history and people of Southern Africa, with a special interest in Cape Town and the Western Cape. The library collection covers topics such as history, popular culture (e.g. Kaapse Klopse), furniture, ceramics, textiles and other decorative arts, historical paintings at the Cape, archaeology and architecture.
The library provides access to a large collection of books, journals, pamphlets, sales catalogues and exhibition catalogues. DVDs and CDs are also included in the collection.
Librarians are available to assist with research and to respond to reference enquiries. If you are unable to visit the library, reference services are also available via telephone, email, post or fax.
As a reference library, all materials must be used in the library.
Photocopying facilities are available for a fee. Copyright restrictions apply.
Daily Western Cape newspapers are also available.

The museums will open operate from 08h30 to 16h00 on weekends during winter.
