The Art Collections Library is a major art research resource, covering South African and international art, serving the gallery staff, researchers, scholars, artists and the general public.
With over 15 000 volumes, the library collection includes books, journals, exhibition catalogues, sales catalogues, pamphlets, exhibition invitations and artist files. The library holds about 400 journal titles of which 60 are current. A comprehensive newspaper clippings collection dating back to 1904 is now being digitised. Also included in the collection are videos and DVDs. An extensive collection of ephemera is available, arranged in over 300 art boxes.
Librarians are available to assist with research and to respond to reference enquiries. If unable to visit the library, reference services are also available via telephone, email, post or fax.
As a reference library, all materials must be used in the library.
Photocopying facilities are available for a fee. Copyright restrictions apply.
Audiovisual viewing facilities are available for the video and DVD collection.
Due to space restrictions the library can accommodate a maximum of 15 clients at any one time.
